Organization Direction and Strategy

While there is no single, clear and consistent definition of strategy, or how to build one, I believe that strategy is about making explicit choices to do some things and not others. Organizations must make decisions about what to continue, what to stop and what new things need to be done.

Strategic plans are not static and for some organizations the strategic planning process is ongoing.  Organizations need to recognize that rapidly emerging changes and trends in their environment will impact the validity and achievement of what initially looked like a good direction. The continual monitoring of potential impacts and shifting the plan as required to respond to these changes is a critical component of the strategic planning process.
